Michael L. Carrafiello, Ph.D., is Director of the Michael J. Colligan History Project on the Hamilton Campus of Miami University. The Project is a joint undertaking of Miami University Hamilton and the Hamilton Community Foundation. The Colligan Project has sponsored a variety of public outreach programs including a lecture series, film series, and numerous events in the school districts of Butler County, including the nationally renowned KidsVoting program. A Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Carrafiello has a field in and has published in Colonial American history, and he worked with Don Doyle, Sam McSeveney, Paul Conkin, and Dewey Grantham, among others, at Vanderbilt University.

At Miami Hamilton, Dr. Carrafiello teaches American History, World History, and Western Civilization. He has published a book and a number of journal articles, including one in The Historical Journal. He has also received both departmental and university-wide teaching awards. In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Carrafiello will serve as one of two principal instructors for this project and as such will be co-leader of the summer institutes and academic-year seminars.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the coordination of the filming schedule, including scripts and post production, as well as all materials and matters related to the in-year seminars and Summer Institutes
  • As a Ph.D. in history, is the primary liaison between the Hamilton City Schools and Miami Hamilton.
  • As a Ph.D. in history, assists Dr. Vascik (Academic Director) in the teaching of the one-day academic year seminars and the Summer Institutes
  • Coordinates mailings, publicity, and all arrangements for end-of-project conference
  • Responsible (along with Dr. Vascik) for historical content of and scripts for DVDs
  • Is primary host/guide through the DVD series.
