Concurrent registration in ENG 111 required. This 75 minute lab is a collaborative workshop that uses papers assigned in ENG 111 to learn ways to improve content, grammar, and editing skills through instructor guidance and peer revision.

ENG 007 Fundamentals of Writing (3 credit hours)

ENG 007 teaches basic skills for writing effective compositions.  Instruction includes fundamentals regarding the writing process, paragraph development, sentence structure and vocabulary.  Essays include narrative, response, analytical and an introduction to research.

EDT 001 College Reading I (3 credit hours)

Course teaches reading as a thinking process to improve understanding of written material.  Instructions focus on applying effective comprehension strategies to variety of reading material, acquiring effective reading study skills, and incorporating supplemental instruction as needed.

 

 

EDT 002 College Reading II (3 credit hours)

Course teaches reading as a thinking process at a more challenging level.  Instruction focuses on applying reading/thinking strategies to increasingly difficult material and skill levels, such as synthesis, evaluation and argumentation.

 

 

ENG 151 Intro to Critical Reading (3 credit hours)

This course provides a minimal review of basic reading skills with more advanced critical reading and thinking.  Major topics include vocabulary enhancement; inferences; facts and opinions; purpose and tone; argument analysis; faulty logic; and propaganda.

 

MTH 001 Basic Math
(2 credit hours)

Course includes thorough coverage of the following topics: basic operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals; work with ratios, proportions, and percents.

 

 

MTH 002 Pre-Algebra
(3 credit hours)

MTH 002 is a one semester preparation course for MTH 101.  Course includes a review of fractions, rational numbers, fundamental algebra concepts, English and metric units of measurements, an introduction to graphing and geometry.

 

 

EDT 110r College Study Skills (2 credit hours)

Designed to teach collegiate level study skills (reading, note taking from texts and lectures, organizing and composing orally and in writing) necessary for students to function effectively at Miami University.
