The Roches bring unique performance to campus Saturday
The final performance of Miami Hamilton’s 2006-07 Artist Series features The Roches at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in Parrish Auditorium.
The Roches are three sisters from New York City (Maggie, Terre and Suzzy) who are known for their swirling harmonies and extraordinary lyrical perspective. They have created a unique musical expression that is perhaps described as “Roche Music,” according to Dr. Howard Epstein, director of the Artist Series.
Their self-titled debut album, The Roches, was hailed as the Best Record of the Year by the New York Times. Besides several appearances on The Tonight Show, Late Night with David Letterman and A Prairie Home Companion, they have recorded and written music for movies and television including their own episode of Steven Spielberg’s “Tiny Toons.”
The Roches have performed and recorded with Philip Glass, Paul Simon, The Indigo Girls and many other well-known artists.
Their version of Acadian Driftwood was recorded on A Tribute to The Band, a 2006 release honoring the legendary folk rock group. Rosanne Cash, Lee Ann Womack and Jacob Dylan also are featured on the tribute album.
“This is a legendary vocal trio. The Roches will make you think and they will make you laugh,” Epstein said.
Tickets for The Roches are available at the door for $20, $18 for senior citizens and $12 for students.
