Students organize race for global water 5K
September 2, 2010
Miami Hamilton students Niki Marengo and Sarah Cox are organizing a Race for Global Water 5K as their BIS 301 service learning project in Environmental Studies. They are collaborating with the Hamilton to New Baltimore Groundwater Consortium and the American Water Works Association (Ohio section) to benefit an international organization called Water for People, www.waterforpeople.org.
The race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the southern boundary of the Great Miami River bike path located at Water Works Park on Groh Lane in Fairfield. Volunteers and runners are needed! Download the sign-up sheet and a flyer containing detailed information about the event below.
A Corporate Challenge and a Fun Run for children are also planned. Participants can run or walk; bring families and friends. Marengo and Cox stress that the event is a great opportunity to “Think Globally and Act Locally” in support of an increasingly-urgent issue: the lack of safe drinking water in developing countries.
To sign up as a volunteer or a runner, open the attachments and follow instructions from there. For more information, feel free to contact Marengo at marengon@ci.hamilton.oh.us or Cox at coxs@ci.hamilton.oh.us.
