Around the World in 90 Minutes comes to Miami Hamilton
April 13, 2009
Join award-winning author Marty Essen as he brings his high-energy digital slide show to Parrish Auditorium from 2:30-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 15.
Essen’s “Around the World in 90 Minutes” features humorous stories, interesting facts, and the best of thousands of photos he took while traveling the world for his book “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.”
“Around the World in 90 Minutes” began as a show Essen presented in bookstores as part of his first book tour. After a while the show took on a life of its own in colleges and universities across the United States, and today it continues to be among the most frequently-booked lectures in America.
Essen discloses amazing animal facts and debunks animal myths. Highlights of the show include cuddly wallaroos, spiny walking sticks, charging elephants, howling wolves, deadly snakes, friendly penguins, bizarre creatures and endangered species. Oh yes, then there's swimming with piranhas, kayaking in the rainforest, rafting with humpback whales, and hiking with a caribou migration. It’s all there, including surviving a hippo attack in Zimbabwe.
Essen has won numerous book awards for travel/essay writing, including the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Best Books Book Award, and the National Indie Excellence Award. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune named “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet” a Top 10 Green Book.
The show is free and open to the public.
