Miami Hamilton student organizations team up for Kids Wish Network
Hamilton boy to benefit from outpouring of campus, community support
October 13, 2009
Multiple student organizations at Miami University Hamilton are combining efforts to raise money for the Kids Wish Network to benefit a Hamilton boy. Kids Wish is a national charity that helps sick children with life-threatening illnesses, by granting their last wish.
Over the next couple of weeks, the students and community are helping make a wish come true for very special 11 year old boy form Hamilton, Ohio. Bradley suffers with Tuberous Sclerosis, Epilepsy and Asperger’s Syndrome and his number one wish is to take a trip to Disney World with his parents, 3 sisters and brother. Miami Student Organizations and some local businesses are trying to help raise $3,592, by October 24th, 2009.
On October 24, National Make a Difference Day, there will be a celebratory event at Columbia Bowling Lanes, in Hamilton, with Bradley and his family, to celebrate the efforts of the University, the Student Organizations, and community organizations, who participated. The event is FREE for anyone who participated, and will include free bowling, music, free food, and a basket auction, where the proceeds will go towards the fundraiser.
Columbia Bowling Lanes is open from 12:30-2:30, and all of those who come are encouraged to participate in our bowl-a-thon; receiving even just a few cents per pin bowled will help towards the cause. Additionally, the event has been submitted to USA Today as well as thousands of other service projects that occur nationally on this day. Bowling is one of Bradley’s favorite activities and will bring all involved together in a fun and relaxed environment.
“Although this is not a direct service event, we want to bring together a sense of community between the family, university and surrounding agencies. We hope everyone will join us in helping Kids Wish Network make a difference in Bradley’s life and create a happy memory that he and his family will cherish forever,” said Jessica Reading, Community Placement Coordinator, AmeriCorps VISTA at Miami Hamilton.
