Lynn Baird, Denise Keegan and Jennifer Reid have been named winners of the 2009 Jim Blount History Educator Award at Miami University Hamilton, Associate Dean Dr. Michael Carrafiello announced today.
“While the blue-ribbon panel was very impressed with all of the applicants, these three stood out. Truth is, it was a tie between Baird and Reid for the upper-grade division, so naturally we extended the award to both of them,” Carrafiello said. “All three are highly deserving of the award.”

Baird, a University of Cincinnati graduate, teaches 8th grade at St. Peter in Chains School in Hamilton. Reid, a graduate of Colorado State University, teaches at Lakota East High School. Keegan, winner of the K-6 division, is a graduate of Miami University who teaches 4th grade at Edgewood’s Bloomfield Elementary.
Each winner will receive an engraved desktop-size crystal sculpture, a citation, an awards dinner hosted in their honor, and a $500 stipend. The recognition dinner will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the Wilks Conference Center at Miami Hamilton.
The Jim Blount History Educator Award is sponsored by the Michael J. Colligan History Project at Miami Hamilton in concert with the Hamilton Community Foundation. The award is named for local historian and educator Jim Blount and honors those who exemplify the commitment to history and the achievements in history education epitomized in Mr. Blount’s life and career.
“We are proud to recognize and salute Mr. Blount and the history teachers he represents. It is talented and dedicated teachers like Jennifer, Lynn, and Denise who have been and remain vital in bringing history to life for the young people of Southwest Ohio and, in turn, enriching the lives of all of its citizens,” Carrafiello said.
The recognition dinner/awards ceremony is open to the campus community and general public. Tickets are $25 each; $40 a pair. To reserve tickets for the dinner, contact LaDonna Hoskins, 785-3277, hoskinls@muohio.edu.
