The Mechanical Engineering Technology senior design team of Greg Ellison, Matt Farley and Dan Kay won third place at the National Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) Competition in Indianapolis April 19.

“Their three-wheeled vehicle was an excellent design but unfortunately a torque dampener failed in the next-to-last event. They were not able to compete in the final event but still finished third,” said Gary Drigel, ENT assistant professor.
Alfred State College (a State University of New York College of Technology) won the competition. Purdue University finished second. Other notable competitors were Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Dayton, and John Brown University.
The Miami Hamilton trio received a huge trophy, tickets to Indy 500 qualifying rounds, medals, hats, jackets, and many well-deserved handshakes and pats on the back.
“We in Engineering Technology are extremely proud of our senior design students – all of them. For Matt, Dan, and Greg, particular congratulations are in order for a job very well done at the national competition,” ENT Chair Dr. Ayodele Abatan said.
