SGA invites campus to participate in tribute to victims of Virginia Tech shootings

Miami Hamilton's Student Government association has released the following statement inviting members of the campus community to participate in a tribute to the victims of the recent shootings at Virginia Tech:

"Last Monday, students, staff, and faculty at the campus of Virginia Tech headed to classes on what seemed to be a typical Monday morning. Little did they or anyone else know that their lives would change in a matter of seconds.

The tragedy at the campus of Virginia Tech is one of the worst massacres in American history. The residents of Blacksburg, Virginia along with the entire nation continue to grieve as the lives of 32 students, staff, and faculty members were selfishly taken away on that Monday morning.

As members of the college community, we’re all affected by this terrible tragedy. The tragedy has caused many of us to discover a profound sense of gratitude that we’re able to wake up each and every morning.

The Miami Hamilton Student Government Association would like to assist the community in their grieving process on Wednesday April 25 at 10:00 a.m. with the viewing of a short video tribute prepared by the SGA and commemoration ceremony in Mosler 200. This short tribute session will allow the MUH community to reflect on the terrible events of the previous week, while paying final respects to the members of the Virginia Tech community that lost their lives on April 16.

The Student Government Association would also like to request all members of the MUH community to wear maroon and/or orange one final time on Wednesday as a reassuring sign of support to the students, staff, and faculty members at Virginia Tech, who will bravely reclaim the campus on Monday as they return to classes.

This week, the college community has been captivated by the terrible accounts of horror surfacing from the tragedy at Virginia Tech. This week, the MUH community has showed an extraordinary sense of solidarity behind one single cause; life. This week, we are all Hokies. The Student Government Association looks forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday April 25 in Mosler 200 at 10:00 a.m. for this special tribute. Stay strong."
