Team Miami gearing up for walk to support mental health
October 1, 2007
Miami Hamilton will participate again this year in the National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI) 2nd Annual Walk for Mental Health on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Student Jennifer Cianco will captain Team Miami on the 3K walk, which begins and ends at Vora Technology Park. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to join in this mental health awareness walk, which is the primary fundraiser for the Butler County Chapter of NAMI. This is a national effort to bring attention to mental health needs of people of all ages afflicted by depression, bipolar illness, schizophrenia and other debilitating anxiety disorders, as well as the needs of family members who live with them and care for them.
NAMI of Butler County is a not-for-profit organization and all-volunteer group. Funds raised are spent locally to raise public awareness and provide support/education to families affected by mental illness. NAMI also supports mental health service agencies and provides educational programs for schools, churches and civic organizations.
Team Miami is trying to raise $1,000 and needs at least 20 walkers. Walkers must register online. There is no registration fee.
Registration, sponsorship and other information is available at www.nami.org/namiwalks07/BCO/alasmuh.
