Miami to focus on Information Security

Miami University has a week-long series of events planned for all three campuses during National Security Awareness Week Oct. 30-Nov. 3.
Miami’s Information Security Office wants to make certain that all faculty, staff and students are aware of computer security dangers and the simple steps that can be taken to avoid them.
Activities on the Hamilton Campus are planned for Thurs., Nov. 2. From 10:30-11 a.m., an information booth in Schwarm Hall will provide the latest information about computer security and a sign-up sheet for a chance to win an Apple iPod.
Bill Custer, Miami’s Information Security Policy Manager, will discuss “Incident Response: Information Technology’s SWAT Team” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in 200 Mosler Hall. Security Awareness training will be conducted from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in 200 Mosler.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to register through TRAIN to learn how to keep your information and the university’s safe. Job enrichment points can be earned by classified staff members who complete the course at www.muohio.edu/train.
Oct. 31 is National Security Awareness Day. Flyers posted throughout the Hamilton Campus contain details about events on all three campuses during the week.
