Lecture to look at popular myths surrounding Adolf Hitler

April 12, 2005

Miami Hamilton’s own George Vascik, associate professor of history, explores a series of popular myths about the life of Adolf Hitler during the next Michael J. Colligan History Project lecture, Monday, April 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Vascik argues that we have created a set of myths that represent Hitler as odd or different from ourselves as a way of coping with the crimes of the Nazi era. Vascik is an author of numerous articles and reviews and specializes in German economic and political history. His current project is a biography of the agrarian politician Diederich Hahn.

The Michael J. Colligan History Project is a joint undertaking of the Colligan Fund Committee of the Hamilton Community Foundation and the Hamilton Campus of Miami University. It is made possible by the generous bequest of Michael J. Colligan, a prominent local businessman and amateur historian.

The principal goal of the Project is to make the appreciation and study of history accessible and enriching for all members of the university, the schools, and the community at large. To that end, the Project offers a wide variety of programs, series, projects, and symposia that present a broad and diverse perspective on the people and events of the past. Our approach is collaborative; the Project solicits proposals and participation from a wide range of individuals, groups, and organizations in the Hamilton community.
