MUH professors on hand to help with those math woes

August 30, 2005

Students who may be struggling with those math assignments only need to turn to their instructors.

Every Wednesday, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, full-time math instructors offer a free help session for any student enrolled in any one of Miami’s math courses. The sessions are held in Room 502 Mosler. Students can attend the entire two hours, or walk in at their convenience. “Many just come and go,” said instructor Kim Cain, who volunteers her services. “It is usually small groups, so one-on-one help with the instructor is common.”

Dave Sobecki, associate professor of math, explained, “The idea is for students to be comfortable and relaxed in dealing with some difficult calculations and understanding the math theories. Who better to help them, than the instructor? We volunteer because we see the benefits in class when a student gets it.”
