Local historian highlights Hamilton’s inventions and inventors

October 26, 2005

Local historian Jim Blount discusses the city of Hamilton’s inventions and innovations that transformed American society during the next Michael J. Colligan History Project Lecture series, Tuesday, November 1.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30pm in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center on the campus of Miami University Hamilton.

Blount explains, “The Hamilton area has been blessed with interesting people whose talent, ideas and leadership have changed and improved the region and the world. Their achievements and adventures range from invention and innovation to setting examples and taking risks.”

Blount is a native of Hamilton and a 1953 graduate of Hamilton High School. He earned a master’s degree in history from Miami University. His award-winning journalism career included five years at the Cincinnati Enquirer, and more than 23 years at the JournalNews in Hamilton. For 14 years, he taught history and civics at the high school and junior high level and in 1992, he received Hamilton’s first “Teacher of the Year” award.

The Michael J. Colligan History Project is a joint undertaking of the Colligan Fund Committee of the Hamilton Community Foundation and the Hamilton Campus of Miami University. It is made possible by the generous bequest of Michael J. Colligan, a prominent local businessman and amateur historian.
