Local historian highlights Hamilton’s
inventions and inventors

Local historian
Jim Blount discusses the city of Hamilton’s
inventions and innovations that transformed American
society during the next Michael J. Colligan History
Project Lecture series, Tuesday, November 1.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public,
begins at 7:30pm in the Harry T. Wilks Conference
Center on the campus of Miami University Hamilton.
Blount explains, “The Hamilton area has been
blessed with interesting people whose talent, ideas
and leadership have changed and improved the region
and the world. Their achievements and adventures range
from invention and innovation to setting examples
and taking risks.”
Blount is a native of Hamilton and a 1953 graduate
of Hamilton High School. He earned a master’s
degree in history from Miami University. His award-winning
journalism career included five years at the Cincinnati
Enquirer, and more than 23 years at the JournalNews
in Hamilton. For 14 years, he taught history and civics
at the high school and junior high level and in 1992,
he received Hamilton’s first “Teacher
of the Year” award.
The Michael J. Colligan History Project is a joint
undertaking of the Colligan Fund Committee of the
Hamilton Community Foundation and the Hamilton Campus
of Miami University. It is made possible by the generous
bequest of Michael J. Colligan, a prominent local
businessman and amateur historian.
