Miami University
Hamilton Associate Professor of Math Robert Davis
recently received recognition as an outstanding teacher
from the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges
and Universities.
Davis, along with 19 other area university professors,
achieved this honor during the 18th Celebration of
Teaching ceremony held November 11 at Xavier University.
Known for
his wit and wisdom, Davis both "coaches and coaxes
students into clearer understanding and better thinking"
in mathematical subjects ranging from algebra to pre-calculus
to statistics. He began teaching at Miami University
Hamilton in 1992. He received his bachelor’s
degree from Loyola University and his master’s
degree and Ph.D. from the University of Southwestern
Louisiana.
“From the beginning,” according to his
nominator, “Bob has had a way of making the
study of statistics seem more like play than work,
in spite of his insistence on understanding. His students
appreciate his passion and the way he can make a dreaded
subject enjoyable. Bob uses humor to relax his students
and real-world problems to engage them.”
