Miami University Hamilton’s
Artist Series
opens with big news September 18 when Bela Fleck returns
with his new acoustic trio, including powerhouse musicians
Bryan Sutton and Casey Driessen.
“Bluegrass will be well-represented this year,”
according to Artist Series coordinator Howard Epstein,
“with Bela Fleck, the super group Longview (October
22), the return of Claire Lynch, and a first-time
appearance in Hamilton of the Nashville Bluegrass
Band.”
With two Grammy Awards, two Entertainer of the Year
honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association
(IBMA), and four wins as IBMA’a vocal group
of the year, the Nashville Bluegrass Band is no stranger
to acclaim and will bring their award-winning sound
to Parrish on January 28.
Claire Lynch, one of the great singers and songwriters
in bluegrass music, is back on the road again and
she will bring longtime band mates Jim Hurst and Missy
Raines to perform with her at Parrish Auditorium January
28.
Adding a multicultural flavor to this year’s
artist series, Inti-Illimani celebrates 35 years in
the music industry when they perform in Parrish on
November 12. Inti-Illimani’s music has intoxicated
audiences around the globe. Wedded in traditional
Latin American roots and playing on more than 30 wind,
string and percussion instruments, Inti-Illimani’s
compositions are a treasure for the human spirit.
Miami Hamilton welcomes back one of it own February
25. Graham Weber will be the special guest with headlining
act Vance Gilbert. Weber attended the campus before
turning to a career as a singer-songwriter. Currently
a resident of Austin, Texas, he has released one CD,
“Naive Melodies.”
Rounding out the series will be Jawbone, featuring
Tony Trischka on banjo, Bruce Molsky on fiddle, and
Paula Bradley on guitar and vocals, April 22. Jawbone
is one of the first groupings to wed bluegrass and
old-time music into Americana for a new era.
Joining them on stage will be Crooked Still. With
the unusual instrumentation of cello, banjo, bass,
and voice, this neo-bluegrass outfit shatters preconceptions
with out sacrificing authenticity.
