In honor of National Arbor Day, students from
Miami Hamilton's Campus Kids helped plant a
young white pine tree on the northeast corner
of Mosler Hall.
Richard Munson, manger of The Conservatory,
explained that J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska
was the founder of Arbor Day. As a pioneer in
the then treeless Nebraska territory, Morton
missed his beloved trees from the east and encouraged
all to plant them not only for their beauty
but for their usefulness in windbreaks, fuel,
building materials and shade from the hot prairie
sun.
