This fall,
students can enjoy a renovated activities center complete
with computers, desks, copy machines and a newly appointed
student activities coordinator.
Corrine Carthell joined the Miami Hamilton staff this
summer and wasted no time creating a welcoming, functional
space for the members of student organizations. Located
in Schwarm Hall, the Student Activities Center provides
planning support for campus organizations, as well
as leadership programming.
Excited about the possibilities, Carthell, who received
her undergraduate degree from Miami University and
her master’s degree in college personnel from
Ohio University, looks forward to the new semester.
“This new space is the big news,” she
said. “Students now have a larger area to plan
activities. They also have technical equipment to
help them create promotional materials.”
Carthell’s office also is located in the Student
Activities Center where posters and information pieces
announcing upcoming programs already decorate bulletin
boards. For instance, Fall Fest is scheduled for Sept.
7 from noon to 2pm. Fall Fest showcases campus offices
and student organizations in a fun, outdoor festival
with games and food for students, faculty and staff.
Then on Sept. 24, Carthell is organizing a Student
Leadership Conference. Widely respected scholar in
educational psychology, Del Suggs will be the conference
facilitator. In addition, Rich Aimes, comedian and
hypnotist, performs Sept. 28. And, that’s just
what is happening in the month of September.
“My goal is to make The Student Activities Center
just that, full of activity,” Carthell added.
