| Twenty-six Hamilton City School District teachers
will spend Wednesday, February 25, learning how
to teach history better as they participate in
the first full-day seminar of the Teaching American
History Grant Project.
Conducted by faculty and staff of Miami University
Hamilton, the first seminar begins a yearlong
study of the years 1492 to 1775. From the European
Age of Exploration to the eve of revolution,
teachers will examine the origins of American
democracy and develop lesson plans to incorporate
into their classrooms.
The Teaching American History Grant Project
received $731,631 in funding from the United
States Department of Education in the fall of
2003 to raise student achievement in American
History and to provide resources for teachers
in their development of more effective history
courses. The grant proposal was a collaborative
effort by Miami University Hamilton and The
Hamilton City School District, along with the
Lane Public Libraries.
During the first year of the project, teachers
will participate in two full day seminars, February
25 and May 12, and a weeklong summer institute
beginning July 26. As part of the grant funding,
a new web site has been developed for the project.
The new site is located on the World Wide Web
at www.americasjourney.org. |
