| Under a beautiful
canopy of blue sky and bright sunshine, Miami
University Hamilton broke ground for what will
become a 7,000 square foot botanical conservatory—a
$3.5 million gift from the Richard J. Fitton
family of Hamilton.
Speaking during the ceremony, held Wednesday,
September 1, was Ms. Rebecca Fitton, wife of
the late Richard J. Fitton, who died in March
of 2004. Dr. Daniel Hall, Executive Director
of Miami Hamilton, said "There's no doubt
that a facility like this is unique." Hamilton
City Mayor Don Ryan said of Richard Fitton,
"He was the most ardent visionary for the
city of Hamilton." Miami University President
James Garland and Jim Fitton also spoke during
the festivities, which included the actual ground
breaking.
Among the shovels was the original shovel
used when Miami broke ground in 1967 for Miami
Hamilton.
