A can of beans might not seem like much,
but to volunteers at local food pantries, it
is a can of gold.
According to Dave Sobecki, Math, the 946 pounds
of food donated last spring from Miami Hamilton
students and staff brought tears to volunteers.
“When I delivered the food, the workers
at the Open Door Food Pantry here in Hamilton
told me they literally had been sitting around
all morning wondering how they were going to
feed their clientele since their shelves were
almost empty,” Sobecki said. “One
of the women cried, and another theorized that
I must have been an angel. Me?”
Sobecki added that the point of the story is
by donating a can or two of food, a simple act
for many, “the good it does is beyond
measure.” All items collected for the
winter drive will be donated to the Shared Harvest
Food Bank in Fairfield, which supplies food
to a number of different agencies in Butler
County.
Anyone interested in donating non-perishable
items can bring them to Mosler Room 526 or leave
them at the switchboard beginning now through
the end of the semester, December 17.
