October 29, 2004

The third annual John E. Dolibois History Prize will be awarded to eminent scholar and author Christopher R. Browning Thursday, November 18, beginning at 7:30 pm in Parrish Auditorium. A gala reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. Browning will speak on the topic of "The Holocaust's Perpetrators: Attempted Explanations of History's Greatest Crime."

According to Dr. Michael Carrafiello, Director of The Michael J. Colligan History Project, "Christopher Browning is the world's most widely consulted academic expert on the Holocaust, having testified before the United States Congress and the Court of Queen's Bench in the United Kingdom."

Browning has also authored two of the most important books on the Holocaust, Ordinary Men and The Origins of the Final Solution. In addition, he holds an endowed chair at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as Frank Porter Graham Professor of History.

The John E. Dolibois History Prize was first presented to its namesake in 2002. The prize is awarded to outstanding historians who have made extraordinary contributions to the discipline. Learn more about the John E. Dolibois History Prize.
