MUH advising staff present
at national conference
October 5, 2004
Members of Miami Hamilton's advising staff are presenting
two programs at the National Academic Advising Association's
conference in session during the first week of October.
The first presentation, Adult Learners: Under
Construction, outlines a three step model that
the staff designed to help assess the needs of our
adult learners at Hamilton. It also creates a curricular
structure to better help them transition into the
Miami system. This program was also selected by the
NACADA commission to be one of five "sponsored
sessions."
The second presentation, Intrusive Advising, explores
the Hamilton Advising philosophy of a proactive look
into student's academic background and intervening
when necessary. This approach has been particularly
successful when working with non-traditional and first
generation students. Chris Klefeker, Shari Plunkett,
Cheryl Hester and Joe Murray are the presenters. The
conference is being held in Cincinnati.
