Library instruction is an effective way to help your students become familiar with the tools needed for successful academic research. The diverse range of print and electronic resources available to students can often be overwhelming. A library instruction session can help familiarize students with specific resources needed for their course projects. In most cases, the librarian will tailor an instruction session to meet the specific research needs of your students. This usually includes an explanation and demonstration of various tools such as the University Libraries' web site, the library catalog, relevant reference materials, and periodical databases. Sessions are typically held in the Library Instruction Classroom which is equipped with demonstration facilities and computers for students to gain hands-on experience. When scheduling, please be prepared to provide the librarian with information about the course project(s) that require research and any specific requests for topics you would like covered. To schedule a class contact Mark Shores at 785-3203 or shoresml@muohio.edu,
or submit an online class request form at: http://www.ham.muohio.edu/library/faculty/classrequest.htm
The goal of our interlibrary loan service is to assist patrons in obtaining books, periodical articles, and other materials that are not readily available through standard means. The library is part of a lending network and frequently locates and requests materials on behalf o our patrons from libraries throughout the United States and internationally.
Books For more information about our interlibrary loan service contact Polly Whitaker at 785-3229 or via email at whitakpj@muohio.edu
The library has a wide range of online resources that can be integrated
into Blackboard course materials. Resources
include periodical databases, online journal collections, library
catalogs, and more. For assistance in selecting resources relevant
to the needs of your students, contact Krista McDonald at 785-3100 mcdonak@muohio.edu, or Mark Shores at 785-3203, shoresml@muohio.edu.
A faculty copy card is available upon request at the circulation desk for use in the library's copiers. This card has been made available to accommodate faculty research needs. For other photocopying needs (syllabi, class handouts, etc.) please use the photocopier in the faculty secretary's office, 532 Mosler. A bypass key for microfilm printing in the library is also available
for faculty use.
Materials expected to be highly used by students can be placed on reserve in the library. Items typically include required readings, videos, supplemental resources, etc. The loan period for each item is designated by the instructor and can include 2 hour (library use only), overnight, or 3 days.
