  • Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader

  • Departmental applications (CIT, ENT, MTH, etc.)
  • And various media players and productivity utilities.

An HP flatbed scanner is available in the library for use by the public for scanning images, articles, pages from reference books, and slides. Scans can be saved in various image formats (JPEG, GIF) or as a Adobe Acrobat (PDF) file.

Two Gateway laptops are available for 3-hour checkout. Each machine has wireless Internet access, MS Office 2007, and network printing capability.

Two digital cameras are available at the circulation desk for checkout by student, faculty, and staff of Miami University. A valid Miami Univeristy ID card is required for checkout. Cameas can be checked out for 4 hours.

The printing facilities in the library use the same pay-for-print standard currently used by the computer labs on campus. Any patron wishing to print documents in the library will be required to pay for these print jobs using funds stored on his or her Miami University ID card. Black and white laser printing is .10 cents per page, color laser printing is .25 cents per page.

Library users not affiliated with Miami University who would like to print items in the library may purchase a print card from the VTS machine in the library and in Mosler Hall. The price of the reusable card is $1.00.

Adding Funds to to Miami ID Cards and Print Cards

Funds can be added to Miami ID cards and Print cards by using the VTS machine (value transfer station). The VTS accepts cash in $1, $5, $10, and $20 increments. The VTS machine is located near the photocopiers in the library.  A second VTS machine is on the first floor of Mosler Hall near the Business Office.

Specific instructions from the Knowledge Base:

Printing from your laptop to a pay-for-print station

Miami iPrint is a service that allows you to print to the pay-for-print printers from your own desktop or laptop. Instructions on how to configure your Windows or Mac computer are available from the MU Knowledge Base (see below).

To be able to use the iPrint service over the Wireless network, you will need to use either the VPN Client (all wireless access points) or set your computer up for 802.1x (academic building wireless access points only).

VPN and 802.1x are services that encrypt (scramble) your data so that eavesdroppers cannot read your network traffic. Miami requires that you use one of these services when using iPrint over wireless so that your print jobs cannot be intercepted and read by others.
