“Richard Fitton, a mentor, friend, banker, and most
of all, a great booster to his hometown which he loved. I met Dick in
1972 when appointed administrative assistant to the city manager. I knew
from the first that this is a man dedicated to his community and one who
believed in excellence in all you do. I admired Dick Fitton my whole career
in Hamilton. It was not that he was the motivator for the Fitton Center;
the behind the scene work on the High Street Underpass with the railroads;
the assistance with the Hamiltonian Hotel; nor buying the parking lot
behind Elder-Beerman so the store would have more parking; but, it was
his support for all of the good works over the last thirty years that
I saw first hand what a person can do for his community. Yet, Dick never
looked for the spotlight. We are all better people for having Dick Fitton
in our lives. Hamilton will miss his integrity, his foresight and love
for Hamilton. I know I’m a better person for having him in my life
and I’m thankful that I had the experience.”
