"I was fortunate and privileged to be associated with Dick Fitton on community activities and projects for a period of time dating from the early 1960's when Dick served as a Hamilton City Council Member. We will always remember his smile and handshake and being a friend to all the people he met—a comfortable person to be with and liked and highly respected by all that knew him.

He was an outstanding community advocate and supporter. His civic activities were many and he was always respected as a civic-minded and modest individual—very competent, a tireless worker and a very humble person. Much of his work and efforts for the community were done in a quiet and unpublicized manner. He was a born leader.

Dick was was involved with city activities and major projects throughout his lifetime. He was involved in the construction of the Columbia Bridge in the 1960's. He was one of the founding trustees of the Hamilton Economic Development Corporation in the latter part of the 1970's and was a regular attendee at the 7:00 A.M. weekly Executive Committee meetings for years. He did substantial work on the High Street Underpass Project and his trips to the railroads' headquarters, to Washington and Columbus were essential to finalizing the required agreements so that this highly important project could proceed to completion. His work and efforts through the years was equally important to the accomplishment of the Michael A. Fox Highway, the Regional Connector to Interstate Highway 75.

We are deeply indebted to Dick Fitton for his contributions and his support of community activities and projects but most of all we will remember him for the fine gentleman and person that he was."
