About the Dean
Dr. Daniel E. Hall began his tenure as Dean of Miami Hamilton and Professor of Political Science in July 2003.
Prior to assuming his duties at Miami University, Dr. Hall was chairperson and associate professor of the Department of Criminal Justice at The University of Toledo. Between 1993 and 2001, he was a member of the faculty of the Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, honors director, and during his last year, interim associate chief executive officer of academic planning, at the Brevard Campus of the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Hall has been the recipient of several teaching awards and is the author or coauthor of 16 books and numerous articles. His areas of inquiry are United State public law and the law of the pacific islands. An attorney, he has clerked for both a United States district court judge and the Supreme Court of Federated States of Micronesia, served as assistant attorney general of Federated States of Micronesia, and he has practiced law in Topeka, Kansas.
Dr. Hall earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, law degree from Washburn University, and his doctorate from University of Central Florida. Passionate about improving lives through higher education, Dr. Hall has advocated for greater engagement with the communities served by the campus. This has included connecting faculty and staff in new ways, advancing civic education and service learning, and opening a Center of Civic Engagement in downtown Hamilton. Under his leadership, the campus has established the University’s first degree program that is delivered in an alternative format (blended classroom/online), has increased the total number of degree programs with an emphasis on adding new bachelor’s degrees, it has become more diverse, and it is in the midst of an initiative to increase the international opportunities of students, faculty, staff, and community.
