Counseling Services
Counseling is available through
the Office of Student Services, 130 Rentschler
Hall. You may make an appointment in person in
the Office of Student Services or you may call
513.785.3211 from an off-campus phone or 53211
from any Miami campus phone. You may also make
an appointment or ask a questions via e-mail to bausanmo@muohio.edu. Counseling services are provided free of charge.
Personal Counseling
Occasionally you may find yourself feeling "stressed."
A counselor can help you identify problems and
find the resources to cope successfully. At Miami
University Hamilton, counseling is provided by
an Ohio licensed professional counselor. Personal
counseling is always a confidential relationship
between you and your counselor and may include:
- Help in clarifying your own thinking about an
issues
- Developing and exploring options for solving
a problem.
- Learning how to change self-defeating habits
and attitudes.
- Stress, time and test anxiety management
techniques.
- Current interests, values, and skills
- Job market trends
- Realistic planning
- Assessing options
- Needed abilities
(5-10 Minutes)
If you are unsure of your next
move, start with our Walk-in Services. Walk-in
visits with the counselor are limited to 5-10
minutes and are handled on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Walk-in hours are posted in the Office
of Student Services on bulletin boards around
campus and are subject to change without notice.
Walk-in questions might include:
- What types of counseling services are available
at Miami Hamilton?
- What can I do with a major in...?
- Request for information on mental health issues
or specific career options.
- Requests to use SIGI-PLUS (follow-up appointment
required in most cases.)
- Requests for phone numbers of community social
services or mental health agencies.
To get assistance in deciding,
to explore options in depth, or to confirm your
career choice, you may discuss your current
situation, your hopes, your dreams, your fears
and your questions with the counselor.
A variety of methods are available to help
you explore your interests, personality style,
values and special aptitudes.
A computer guided, career search program, SIGI-PLUS,
is also available for use by MUH students. A
two-credit hour course, EDL 100 - Career Development
and the College Student, focuses on helping
you make information career choices.
Please note, course selections and scheduling
is offered through the Office of Academic Advising
and Retention Services in 107 Rentschler Hall.
