After our regularly scheduled meeting yesterday, the construction schedule for the major renovation project that is taking place all over the campus is becoming more and more clear.  Right now the priority is to get the new bookstore location in Schwarm Hall completed so the bookstore can be moved, which will free up their current space for the contractor to begin work in that area.

The State Fire Marshall is scheduled to inspect Schwarm Hall on June 5th and if it is approved, we are hoping to be moving the bookstore on Thursday June 7th.  Painting and flooring work will continue in the Commons area beyond the June 7th date but access will be available for visitors to the bookstore.  Obviously if things don't go well with the State Fire Marshall, we will have to revise our bookstore move.

The new Admissions area on the first floor of Mosler, the Dean's Suite on the second floor of Mosler, the new Fourth Floor Mosler Classrooms and the new ENT Suite on the second floor of Phelps are all pretty much on similar schedules.  Drywall is either being finished or painting is taking place.  Ceilings are being installed as well.  The carpeting for these areas is being shipped on May 30th.  Furniture orders for these areas should be completed by June 1st and with an average delivery date of 4 to 6 weeks; this provides our first glimpse of the approximate dates of these office moves between the week of July 16th and July 31st.

For the new Records and Registration Office, the contractor expects his work to take approximately 6 weeks to complete once the bookstore is moved.  Carpeting is also being shipped on May 30th and it will be placed in storage until installation.  The furniture will also be ordered by June 1st and will be held in the warehouse until the new space is completed.  Approximate dates for moving into these offices would be between July 23rd and August 6th.

The contractor is currently working in the Jack Rhodes Study on the first floor of Mosler, which should be completed by the end of June/mid-July.  They are targeting June 15th to begin work in the Academic Advising area and mid to late July for the Business Office.  Furniture and carpet order dates have not been solidified for these two areas so at this time I cannot project delivery dates.

The contractors really appreciate everyone's cooperation in this entire project.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Scott Brown at 5-3227.

The bidding process has been completed and the contract for the general contractor is being finalized in Oxford. The general contractor is hoping to get started on Monday, January 15th, pending the completion of the contract paperwork.

One of the first things the general contractor will do is put up "dust walls" in order to prevent dust from infiltrating other areas in each building. Unfortunately, this will keep the dust out but not the noise which will somewhat be a constant throughout this entire project. I will try to keep you up-to-date with regards to any major disruptions. There will be no noise during exam week.

While this project is not the most expensive one that we have had on this campus, it will impact several areas on campus at the same time. They will be working in Schwarm, Rentschler, Mosler and Phelps Halls until the projected completion this summer of 2007.
