John
Maggard earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from
Miami University's School of Fine Arts with
emphasis on illustration in 1976.
Currently,
he continues his education in various electronic
media, principally 3-D animation and modeling,
as well as Adobe® Illustrator® and
Photoshop®. Over the past several years,
Mr. Maggard has made more and more use of
digital imaging, at times as a tool for the
design or completion of a traditionally painted
piece, and at other times serving as the finshed
art itself; either a complete digital image
or moving animation.
Mr.
Maggard has taught college level illustration
courses at The College of Mt. St.Joseph, and
The Art Academy Of Cincinnati, both Cincinnati,
Ohio, and has lectured at Miami University,
Oxford, Ohio.

The
artist began
production and printing experience while in college
at Geo.Hill & Sons, Oxford, Ohio, preparing
multimedia training aids for various industries.
Upon
graduation in 1976, he worked briefly at Gibson
Greeting Cards, Cincinnati Ohio, then the NCR
Corporation, Dayton, Ohio in Corporate Graphic
Design. Between 1977 and 1980, Mr. Maggard was
employed as staff illustrator/designer at Steinau-Fisher
Studio, Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1980-81 he was
employed as an illustrator at Wanamaker Advertising
Arts, Dayton, Ohio. Since 1981, Mr. Maggard
has been self employed as an illustrator, represented
by Scott Hull Associates, in Dayton, Ohio &
NYC.
Mr.
Maggard's professional work consists of approximately
50/50 percent advertising and editorial work,
although other applications have recently increased.

A
member of the New York Society of Illustrators
since 1993, The Illustrators' Partnership of
America (IPA), and past member of Graphic Artists
Guild, Mr. Maggard's work has placed in juried
competitions for the Society of Illustrators'
Annual Competition, Communication Arts Annual
Competition, and Print magazine. he
was also the recipient of the 1997 American
Heart Association "Time Feeling and Focus"
award for recognition of work on eighteen Cincinnati
Mini-Marathon posters in the period 1979-1999.
Besides his professional accomplishments, Mr.
Maggard has been a member of the Terrace Park
Volunteer Fire Dept. and EMS since 1994, and
currently serves as a Captain on the Fire Dept.and
co-Assistant Chief of EMS. Mr. Maggard resides
in Terrace Park his wife Susan, children Daniel,
Nathan and Allison, dog Taco and two recently
rescued kittens, Gwendolyn and Oscar.
