Art Panel Two: Pre-Columbian Scene

DNA strand; big sunflower, red oak leaves and acorns; image of "normal" size dragonfly; wheat
This panel represents the same area as shown in the first panel, but following the ice age, after the glaciers have receded to the north. The plants represented are those now common to the great plains (Big Bluestem grass, Indiangrass, sunflowers) and a species more common to Ohio today, The Red Oak. These plants all co-existed in the area of present-day Miami Valley. The dragonfly (at a more reasonable size by this time) and the DNA strand is repeated here to show the continuity of living things throughout the ages.
