Engaging Our Wider Community
In 1967, the State of Ohio stipulated that Hamilton demonstrate the community’s commitment to the establishment of Miami University Hamilton. The community had to raise some $800,000 on its own, in a relatively short period of time, toward initial startup costs. Immediately a fundraising campaign was organized and well before the deadline arrived, the people of Hamilton had raised more than $2 million.
In the more than 40 years that have passed since, both campus and community have focused on building meaningful, lasting relationships and partnerships based on mutual trust and mutual benefit, with the greater good of an entire community at heart.
