How do I know which application form to complete?

If you’re a high school graduate or have GED but never attended college before…

First-time students: Miami University Hamilton has an open admission policy for first-time first year students. You will be admitted if you have earned a high school diploma from a secondary program chartered by the state board of education, a General Educational Development (GED) diploma, or if you are alternatively-educated. You must complete the application for admission and submit official high school transcripts/GED scores. ACT or SAT scores are required for admission ONLY if you have graduated from high school within the past two (2) calendar years.

If you’ve previously attended a college/university but want to earn a degree or credits from Miami University…

Transfer Student: If you have attended another college or university after high school and registered for one or more courses, you are considered a transfer student.

Transfer students must complete the application for admission and submit an official transcript of all previous college work attempted. Students who graduated from high school after 1985 also must submit an official high school transcript.

Admission is based on your college grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), including courses which have been repeated. Transfer students applying for regular admission must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA at their previous institution(s) or have been out of school for at least 2 years. ACT or SAT scores are required for admission ONLY if you have graduated from high school within the past 2 calendar years.

If you already have a Bachelor’s Degree…

Unclassified Admission: If you have already completed a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, you are eligible for admission as an Unclassified Student. You will need to complete the Unclassified Student Application for Admission and submit an official transcript or diploma indicating the degree earned. Unclassified students taking classes at Miami University will earn credit for classes taken. This information is for those students NOT seeking another degree. If you are degree seeking, please fill out the transfer student application or call the Admission Office for clarification and questions.

NOTE: Unclassified students are NOT eligible to receive financial aid.

If you are a student at another college or university and want to earn credit at Miami for one semester…

Transient Students: In order to attend as a transient student, you must have attended another college/university within the last 12 months. You will need to complete a transient student application for admission and supply a statement of good standing or an official academic transcript showing a minimum 2.0 accumulative GPA. A transient student may not attend Miami University for two consecutive semesters.

If you have previously attended any of Miami University’s campuses…

Re-Enrolling Former Students: “Once a student, always a student!” If you have attended any of Miami University’s campuses and completed a course for a final grade, you are considered a returning former student. The length of time you have been away from the university does not matter. Re-enrolling students should complete an online application form.

If you require more information, call the Records and Registration Office at the Hamilton Campus at 785-3209.

If you're a high school student who's enrolled in Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP)

Go to the PSEOP page for more information and to download the appropriate form.
