Admission Requirements for Transfer Students
If you have attended another college or university
after high school and registered for one or
more courses, we will consider you a transfer
student. Transfer students must submit an official
transcript of all previous college work attempted. Students who graduated from high school
after 1985 also must submit an official high
school transcript.
Admission is based on your
grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), including
courses which have been repeated. Transfer
students must have at least a 2.0 cumulative
GPA at their previous institution(s). If you
do not, you will not be admitted unless you
have been out of school for at least two years.
Students planning to apply for financial aid
need to contact the Office of Financial Aid
and ask about additional requirements that may
apply. Need more
transfer information? Complete
an online form and we'll mail some to you.
Students who have extraordinary circumstances
that may have affected their academic performance
(illness, personal or family trauma, etc.) may
petition for special admission consideration. NOTE: To receive probationary
transfer admission consideration, please contact
the Office of Admission at least eight weeks before
classes begin.
Some departments and program standards at Miami
are stricter for transfer students. These include
all programs in the Richard T. Farmer School of
Business Administration (except business technology),
the School of Education & Allied Professions,
the School of Fine Arts, and the Department of
Communication. Contact Miami Hamilton's Office
of Admission or the appropriate department in
Oxford for more information.
Generally,
credit for any college-level course taken at an
accredited institution for which you received
a grade of "C" or better can transfer to Miami.
Some training courses provided by the armed forces
also are the equivalent of college courses.
